Collin Smith Announces He's Stepping Aside from Basketball

UCF senior forward Collin Smith announced Tuesday on social media that he will be stepping aside from basketball. His entire statement is below.
 
First off, I'd like to thank my parents, coaches, administrators, and fans everywhere. Thank you, Knight Nation, for supporting me during this journey!

I want to let you know that at this time I will be stepping aside from basketball. I know that isn't easy to hear because it isn't easy for me to say. Anyone who knows me, knows that I love the game of basketball more than anything. Since I was nine years old, it's provided me with many memories that I will never forget. However, as my doctor and I continue to monitor my health, an underlying issue has caused us to make the decision to step aside from the game to properly manage my health. COVID-19 has taught us a lot of lessons, and while we are not sure what the future holds for me with basketball, life is about timing, and the time is now to fully take care of myself.

Although I won't be on the court THIS season, I won't be too far away as I plan to cheer for the BEST TEAM in the country from the sidelines or wherever I happen to be at that moment.

Thank you again to my Mom and Dad, who have supported me since I first played with a Nerf basketball as a toddler in my playpen. And thanks again to my teammates, fans and supporters over all the years. I want to also thank everyone for respecting my privacy at this time as I manage my health with my family.

And trust and believe, this isn't going to be the last time you hear about Collin Smith.
