ORLANDO - The ASUN Conference announced its Softball 2001-10 All-Decade Team on Tuesday as 30 student-athletes were named to the list across 13 programs. Three Knights were named All-Decade in Stephanie Best (2002-05), Dottie Cupp (2002-03) and Jania Shinhoster (2002-05).
During the decade, the Knights were one of five programs to capture ASUN Championship titles as they stood atop the conference in 2005.
Best is only one of two players in ASUN history to be named the Player of the Year in three consecutive years (2003-05), She also holds several conference career records, being first in RBI (213), hits (285) and home runs (71). The four-time All-Conference selection with three First Team nods (2003-05) helped the Knights capture their solo ASUN Championship crown.
A two-time First Team All-ASUN selection and All-Tournament team honoree, Cupp helped the Knights advance to the ASUN Championship final for the first time in 2003. She sits sixth with a single-season record for shutouts with 13. In 2003, she led all ASUN pitchers with a season-high 190 strikeouts.
Shinhoster is a three-time All-ASUN selection with back-to-back First Team nods in 2003 and 2004, She helped the Knights earn three straight trips to the ASUN Championship final (2003-05) winning the programs lone title in 2005 over the No. 1 seed Troy. She was named to the ASUN All-Tournament team twice (2004-05) and ranks in the Top-10 in career at-bats (1st; 848), games (T6th; 271), runs (8th; 163), doubles (T8th; 50) and hits (9th; 268).
To be named to the All-Decade Team, an individual must have competed for at least two years in the decade as an ASUN student-athlete. Individuals that obtained one of the following criteria were named to the team; three First Team All-Conference selections, four All-Conference selections, multiple Scholar-Athlete/Player of the Year. Individuals that obtained at least two of the following criteria were also named to the team; Player/Pitcher/Tournament MVP/Freshman/Defensive Player, three All-Conference selections, two First Team All-Conference selections.
