ORLANDO – UCF sophomore quarterback Dillon Gabriel earned a third national weekly award Thursday for his performance in the win over Georgia Tech, being named the Manning Award Quarterback of the Week.
Gabriel was also named the Davey O'Brien National Quarterback of the Week and the Walter Camp National Player of the Week, in addition to receiving the American Athletic Conference Offensive Player of the Week award.
After leading UCF (1-0) to a win on the road over the Yellow Jackets, Gabriel earned the Manning Award Quarterback of the Week honors over Miami's D'Eriq King and Tyler Vitt of Texas State.
Gabriel threw for 417 yards with four touchdowns, going 27-of-41 and rushing for 30 yards in the 49-21 victory this past Saturday.
Ten finalists for the Manning Award will be selected and the winner is scheduled to be announced following the College Football Playoff National Championship.
In its first 16 years, the Manning Award has recognized the top names in college football. It has honored quarterbacks from 12 different schools and from four different conferences.
All the Manning Award winners follow in the footsteps of the Mannings themselves. In college, Archie, Peyton, and Eli Manning combined for over 25,000 passing yards and 201 touchdowns while playing in 10 bowl games and earning four bowl MVP awards. Archie was the No. 2 pick in the NFL Draft, while both Peyton and Eli were selected No. 1 overall.
Gabriel and the 13th-ranked Knights are back in action this Saturday. UCF takes on ECU at noon with television coverage on ABC, streaming capabilities on ESPN+, and radio sounds on FM 96.9 The Game.
