Q & A: Max O'Hagan

UCF Men's Golf newcomer Max O'Hagan took some time to reflect on his career and answer some questions about what he is most looking forward to in joining the Knights, what his favorite hobbies are and more. Check out what the fifth-year senior from Surrey, England had to say below:

How has your game evolved in your first four seasons at the collegiate level?
I believe my game has improved a considerable amount the past four years, simply due to the amount of experience and exposure I have gained. I have learned that it is essential to have a shot that you can fall back on, especially during pressure situations where you feel like you can execute more times than not. I feel like I can think my way around the golf course far better and therefore, reduce the amount of unforced errors. Lastly, the golf courses in the states are longer than they are back home [in England] so I feel like my long game has really improved to match these extra demands.

What are you looking forward to most about joining UCF and why did you choose UCF?
I'm looking forward to really maximizing everything UCF has to offer. There are so many things here at UCF that I feel will really have a huge benefit on my golf game, such as the practice facility and the strong schedule we play here. I'm also looking forward to facing the new challenges that may arise which will hopefully make me into a better person and golfer and set me up for life after college.

What are some of the biggest differences between life in England and here in the United States?
I believe the biggest difference for me between England and the states, especially Florida, is the weather. It is considerably hotter and far more humid here in Florida compared to back home. College in the states. especially when attending as an athlete, is much more structured than university back home. Our days are fully mapped out here with class, training, practice, playing and more. The other notable thing for me is that everyone drives everywhere as shops and restaurants are far more spaced out compared to back home where we walk a lot more.

What are some of your favorite hobbies/things to do outside of golf?
Outside of golf, I love to socialize with my friends, go fishing off the beach, and travel to new and exciting places. Back home, I am fortunate enough to be a member at Hampton Court where I play tennis which is great fun as it allows me to play another sport outside of golf.

What is your favorite golf memory to date and why?
My favorite memory for me is when we won the conference championship at Florida Tech in 2017-18. It was the first time the team had ever won that tournament, so the feeling among the team was something I personally had never felt before. It was great to see everyone play well and enjoy the rewards of our hard work.
