ORLANDO – The UCF rowing team captured the American Athletic Conference Team Academic Excellence Award, as announced by the league on Thursday.
The Knights earned the distinction as the conference's top performing academic team in rowing for the second straight year, having also collected the honor in 2019.
The five-time conference champion Knights have excelled on the water. UCF captured its 10th straight Robin Yeuell Trophy with a sweep of all seven events at the Metro Cup in March before the COVID 19 pandemic cancelled the remainder of the spring season.
UCF has also earned its share of academic accolades this season. In June, 11 Knights were named CRCA scholar-athletes, marking back-to-back years with double-digit honorees. On Wednesday, Mia Cleary, the 2020 Dr. John C. Hitt Female Scholar-Athlete of the Year, was named The American's 2019-20 Rowing Scholar-Athlete of the Year. In conjunction with the Team Academic Excellence Award, 54 Knights were named to The American's All-Academic Team.
In addition to rowing's two Team Academic Excellence Awards, UCF has collected the award in football and women's basketball in 2013-14, football, men's basketball and softball in 2014-15, men's golf and women's tennis in 2015-16, volleyball in 2016-17 and men's tennis in 2017-18.
