Jackson Placed on Wuerffel Trophy Watch List

FORT WALTON BEACH, Fla. The Wuerffel Trophy announced its Watch List on Thursday. UCF offensive lineman Samuel Jackson was among the 114 players from college football's Football Bowl Subdivision (FBS).

The Wuerffel Trophy, known as "College Football's Premier Award for Community Service," is presented each February in Fort Walton Beach. Named after 1996 Heisman Trophy winning quarterback from the University of Florida, Danny Wuerffel, the Wuerffel Trophy exists to honor college football players who serve others, celebrate their positive impact on society, and inspire greater service in the world.

The Bradenton, Fla., native appeared in all 13 games for the Knights last season, starting 10. The redshirt junior has played both tackle and guard for the Knights offense and helped UCF break the single-season rushing record as a sophomore in 2018.

During his tenure as a Knight, Jackson has also been a member of SAAC and involved in the community. He has participated in a mattress recycling event, an OnBikes player build, had lunch with the Best Buddies organization, volunteered at Dreamplex and assisted at Relay for Life. Following Hurricane Irma, Jackson and the Knights helped out with the Second Harvest food bank. Prior to UCF's appearance in the 2019 PlayStation Fiesta Bowl, he also joined his teammates in hosting a football boot camp as part of the bowl outreach initiative.

The formal announcement of the 2020 recipient will be made at the National Football Foundation's festivities in New York City on December 8. The presentation of the 2020 Wuerffel Trophy will occur at the 52nd All Sports Association Awards Banquet on February 19, 2021 in Fort Walton Beach.
