ORLANDO – UCF men's basketball head coach Johnny Dawkins announced an addition to the program on Monday with the signing of Louisville graduate transfer Darius Perry to play for the Knights during the 2020-21 season.
Perry, who will earn his bachelor's degree from Louisville in just three years, will be eligible to play immediately for the Knights in his senior season.
"We're excited to welcome Darius into our UCF Family," Dawkins said. "He has a lot of experience playing at a high level and will bring leadership to the point guard position for us. He's a terrific player and a great young man. We're all looking forward to having Darius with us for the 2020-21 season."
A 6-foot-2 point guard, Perry played in 100 games and started 40 in three seasons at Louisville. He averaged 5.3 points per game over the last two seasons, shooting 39 percent from 3-point range as a junior and 82.4 percent from the free throw line in his career.
Perry dished out 79 assists to just 42 turnovers last season, a 1.88 assist-to-turnover ratio that would have ranked seventh in the ACC if he had reached the minimums. He had nine games during ACC play that he had no turnovers and had 11 games of three or more assists.
An excellent student, Perry was named to the All-ACC Academic team three straight years in Louisville.
Prior to signing with the Cardinals, he was a four-star recruit coming out of Wheeler High School in Marietta, Georgia. Perry was ranked as high as 52nd nationally and was a Class 7A all-state selection after averaging 20.2 points and 5.1 assists per game as a senior.
Perry joins freshmen Isaiah Adams and Jamille Reynolds in UCF's incoming class for 2020-21. Sean Mobley, who sat out last season after transferring from VCU, will also help bolster the Knights lineup next season.
