Q & A: Denali Schappacher

UCF Softball outfielder Denali Schappacher took time to reflect on the past season and answer some questions about what she is up to today. Hear what the junior from Bradenton, Fla. had to say below:

What was your favorite memory from this past season?
My favorite memories were the ones that we made in California. Coming back to beat Michigan in a walk-off 3-2 win was definitely a personal favorite because it ended in a big huddle celebration at the end. Even the game after that against UCLA was great. I think it was so cool to rally together and really give it our all towards a team. Even though it wasn't the result we wanted as we lost 4-2, we became a better team after that. Then of course, sharing a big house right on the beach together for a week, watching movies, singing karaoke, and playing in the sand. All the way down to our last game against Cal State Fullerton with no fans, we showed how much we love playing this game and how little the outside noise meant to us.

Box Score: UCF vs. No. 16 Michigan
Box Score: UCF vs. No. 1 UCLA

What game did you think was the best all-around performance from the team last season?
The Michigan and UCLA games! (See answer to question one above).

What sort of tips do you have for keeping up with class work from home?
Keep to your regular schedule! I still wake up for class times and engage in my schoolwork or discussions during the normal time frame. I even take my allotted lunch breaks to make sure I am staying on my eating schedule. Lastly, work at a desk if you can. You won't be able to take class as seriously if you're working from your bed.

What sort of workouts/exercises have you been doing from home to prepare for next year?
Our materials are limited but we get creative with it. After my sister and I workout, we run around our neighborhood or do some sort of physical activity like biking or rollerblading to get our cardio in.

What are your expectations for the team in 2021?
My expectations for Team XX are to handle our unfinished business. I am excited to see how the new class is only going to add to our skill level. We are going to stick to our plan and you are going to see some big things from us next season.
