Q & A: Tony Johnson Jr.

UCF men's basketball freshman Tony Johnson Jr. is here with UCFKnights.com to look back at his first season with the Knights and answer some questions about what he's working on for the future. Read what Johnson had to say below:

Why did you choose UCF?
UCF had a family feel to it. I knew it was somewhere I could call home even 20 years from now. I knew a great education would be part of the experience and I couldn't pass that up.

What was your favorite memory from your first season as a Knight?
My favorite memory from this past year was definitely the Cincinnati game. I think that's when we came together as a team and really played for each other.

What is advice you would have for incoming freshmen?
I would tell them to always work hard on and off the court and to listen to the coaches' advice every single day. That will make the transition a lot easier. I'd also just tell them to be ready to join a brotherhood.

What are your main goals for the offseason?
I definitely want to improve all around, but I want to add a consistent floater to my offensive game. I also want to grow in the film room and try to consistently make decisions on the court.

Who has been one of your biggest mentors?
My big bro, Cory Underwood is one of my mentors. He took me under his wing. He's guided me through the process and put in the hours in the gym with me. He made it to the NBA so he has the blueprint for all young players.

Tony Johnson Jr. finished his first season at UCF, playing in 20 games and starting twice at point guard. He averaged 11.8 minutes per game, while scoring 3.8 points, dishing out 30 assists and grabbing 35 rebounds.

In the win at Cincinnati on Feb. 19, Johnson went for 21 points, nine rebounds, six assists and six steals as the Knights earned their first win on the road against the Bearcats.
