ORLANDO, Fla. – The No. 33/20 UCF men's tennis team is set to open a six-match homestand with a pair of midweek matchups. The Knights will face Penn at 5 p.m. on Tuesday and South Alabama at 6 p.m. on Wednesday. The first 30 fans at Tuesday's match will receive a Knugget bobblehead as a giveaway.
The Knights have pieced together an impressive six-match winning streak that includes three Power 6 wins over Virginia, Illinois and No. 20 Texas Tech. Juan Pablo Grassi Mazzuchi has been on fire in singles play, winning his last seven matches and improving his record to 8-3 this season with a 4-1 mark against ranked opponents. He and Gabriel Decamps have combined to win their last seven matches together in doubles, brining their record to 9-1 this season including a 4-0 mark at the top doubles spot.
Penn enters the weekend with a 6-6 record this season. They've been shutout by the three ranked teams they've played, falling 7-0 to No. 12 Baylor and No. 18 Tennessee and 4-0 to No. 14 NC State. The Quakers have picked up notable wins over teams such as Temple, Michigan State and Brown so far. Penn's match against the Knights is the start of a four-match swing through Florida as they'll face South Florida, UNC-Wilmington in a neutral site match and Florida Gulf Coast.
South Alabama brings a 5-5 record with them to Orlando. They have strung together three consecutive victories, topping Xavier University of Louisiana, UAB and Florida A&M. They fell to No. 9 Texas A&M to begin ITA Kickoff Weekend. The Jaguars have posted a perfect 5-0 record at home but have struggled on the road, going 0-4. South Alabama also opens a Florida trip with their match against the Knights, playing South Florida and UNF in Tampa later in the week.
After this pair of midweeks, the Knights will face four more opponents during the homestand to wrap up their 2020 home schedule. UCF will host UNF (March 21), Nebraska (March 24), Arkansas (March 25) and Cornell (March 30). The Black and Gold will then cap their regular season slate with three conference matches on the road against Tulane (April 3), Tulsa (April 5) and South Florida (April 12).
