Wright Earns Final Player of the Week

The American Release

ORLANDO (UCFKnights.com) – A trio of dominant performances to close out the regular season earned Kay Kay Wright the final American Athletic Conference Player of the Week honor of her collegiate career.

The Orlando native averaged 26.7 points per game over the final three-game stretch, leading the Knights to a second-place finish in the American Athletic Conference for the second straight year.

During the three-game stretch, Wright shot 55.4 percent (31-56) from the floor, 58.8 percent (10-17) from beyond the arc and was perfect (8-8) from the free throw line.

In a career performance in the regular season finale, Wright shot nearly 62 percent from the floor, pouring in a career-high 37 points, which is tied for the fourth-most points in a single game in UCF history. Her five made three-pointers against the Shockers were also a career-best.  She moved into third place on UCF's career charts with 1,588 points in her final regular season home game. She also dished out a game-high six assists, putting her career total at 492.

The senior point guard led UCF in scoring in all three games. She shot above 40 percent from the floor in all three contests and shot over 58 percent in the wins over Temple and Wichita State. She also dished out at least two assists in every game, including back-to-back games with six dimes.

Tuesday's accolade marks the fifth time in her career that Wright has earned The American's Player of the Week honor, and it is the third time she has been tabbed with the award this season. She collected the Co-Player of the Week honor on Dec. 23 and earned the honor again on Feb. 17.

The second-seeded Knights begin action at the 2020 Air Force Reserve American Athletic Conference Championship on Saturday, March 8. UCF will face the winner of the No. 7 Wichita State – No. 10 Houston contest at 6 p.m. in Mohegan Sun Arena in Uncasville, Conn.
