ORLANDO, Fla. – For the third time this season, Juan Pablo Grassi Mazzuchi has been named the American Athletic Conference Player of the Week.
Grassi Mazzuchi has played an instrumental role in helping to build the UCF men's tennis team's seven-match winning streak. He ripped off seven straight wins in singles and in doubles prior to the team's match against Penn.
Grassi Mazzuchi clinched the team's match as they upset No. 20 Texas Tech last week. He was the final court playing and entering his third set. In a back and forth battle, the match went to a third set tiebreaker to decide things. Grassi Mazzuchi came through in the clutch, winning tiebreaker with ease to seal the Power 6 win.
The sophomore has been paired with Gabriel Decamps all season. The nation's No. 7 duo has gotten the call to play at the top doubles spot and has gone 4-1 since then. Overall, the tandem is 9-2 this season.
Grassi Mazzuchi and Decamps have each won the conference's player of the week honor three times. The two shared the honor last week, meaning Grassi Mazzuchi has won the nod in two consecutive weeks.
