ORLANDO, Fla. - The No. 18 UCF women's tennis team is set to resume their four-match road trip as they head to Dallas this weekend for a match against conference opponent SMU. The two will square off on Saturday at 1 p.m. ET at the SMU Tennis Complex.
UCF is coming off two strong wins this past weekend against both a ranked and conference opponent. The Black and Gold defeated No. 29 Old Dominion 6-1 claiming their second win against a ranked team this season. The Knights went on to blank Tulane 7-0 in their first American Athletic Conference matchup of the campaign.
SMU will enter the weekend with a 9-4 record this season with five of those wins being shutouts. The Mustangs have only lost the doubles point twice to this point in the season, winning 10 of 12 doubles segments. They're 2-0 in conference play thus far, beating Tulane 4-1 and sweeping Wichita State 4-0. SMU fell in their only other match against a ranked opponent as No. 19 Wake Forest topped the Mustangs 4-1.
SMU boasts a ranked doubles tandem consisting of Jackie Nylander and Isabella Tcherkes Zade. The duo stand at No. 60 in the latest Oracle/ITA rankings. The pair leads the way for the Mustangs at the top doubles spot with a 9-3 record and a 2-1 mark over ranked opponents, beating Wichita State's No. 28 pair and Colorado's No. 31 tandem.
UCF went undefeated against American Athletic Conference opponents last season, going 6-0 in regular season conference play and sweeping their way through the conference tournament to their first league title since 2002. The last time the Knights lost to a conference opponent was back on Apr. 20, 2018 when they lost to SMU in the tournament semifinals.
