ORLANDO, Fla. – After a 2-0 week in singles and a 1-1 mark in doubles, Evgeniya Levashova has been named the American Athletic Conference's Player of the Week.
Levashova showed grit all weekend long, claiming gutsy three-set wins on Friday and Sunday against two ranked programs. Levashova defeated No. 9 FSU's Emmanuelle Salas at the top spot on Friday by a count of 5-7, 6-4, 6-4. Sunday saw Levashova in a jam against No. 18 Texas A&M's Jayci Goldsmith. After dropping a tough first set, Levashova wound up trailing 1-5 in the second frame. Unphased, Levashova fought off at least 10 match points and rallied all the way back to win the second frame. After trailing 3-0 in the third set, Levashova wound up winning her match at the second singles spot 5-7, 7-5, 6-4.
In doubles, Levashova paired up with Domenika Turkovic to pick up a ranked victory at the second doubles spot. Levashova and Turkovic were the first court to finish on Sunday, taking out Texas A&M's No. 20 Lucia Quiterio and Jessica Anzo 6-2. The win was the first time that the UCF pair had topped a ranked opponent in 2020.
Levashova is currently unranked after not participating in the fall season. However, in the 2019 campaign, she was part of the top doubles pair in the nation as well as being a top 25 singles player. When tomorrow's first spring singles and doubles rankings are released, expect to see Levashova's name somewhere among the top players in the country.
