ORLANDO – The UCF Softball team is gearing up for a showdown with No. 9 Florida State on Wednesday. After starting the season 13-2, UCF will look to stay hot as they travel to Tallahassee to do battle with the Seminoles for the 25th time in program history.

Following a weekend in which the UCF Softball team run ruled then No. 12 Tennessee twice, outscoring them 19-2, this year's Knights squad has tied the 2015 team's record as the best 15-game start in program history.

It will be a reunion on Wednesday as UCF assistant coach Kendra Kirkhoff was Florida State's volunteer assistant coach during the 2018 season as the Seminoles won their first NCAA National Championship. Brandi Stuart, former FSU softball player and two-time NFCA All-American, is the Knights' Executive Associate Athletic Director and also serves as Softball's Senior Woman Administrator and Deputy Title IX Coordinator.
 
THE OPPONENT

  • The Seminoles are ranked No. 9 overall in the USA Today/NFCA Top 25 Poll.
  • FSU started their 2020 season 7-4, including a win over then No. 1 Alabama
  • Last season, FSU finished the season 55-10 and made it to the Super Regionals, where they lost to Oklahoma State.
  • The Seminoles hold a 19-5 all-time record against the Knights with UCF dropping the last meeting, 3-9 in 2019.
  • FSU won the Women's College World Series in 2018, finishing with a 58-12 record.
  • The Seminoles have played seven of their first 11 games of the 2020 season against a team that is either ranked or receiving votes in the USA Softball poll.

KNIGHT BITES

  • LAST TIME OUT  The Knights are coming off a weekend that saw them go 4-0 in the USF Invitational, outscoring opponents 30-4. In their first two matchups of the weekend, the Knights' took down then No. 12 Tennessee in two run rule victories.  
  • WHITE KEEPS CLIMBING – In her last start, Alea White tossed 7.0 innings against the FIU Panthers, allowing no runs on just four hits and striking out ten to earn the victory. The win marked White's 73rd of her career. The all-time record is 80, set by Shelby Turnier (2013-2016). White shined in the circle over the weekend, tossing 12 combined innings, allowing just one run and striking out 15 to be named to the AAC Honor Roll.
  • CODY NAMED PLAYER OF THE WEEK  UCF Softball freshman standout Jada Cody was named the conference Player of the Week, The American announced on Monday. The award marks the first in Cody's young career after she led the Knights' offense to a perfect, 4-0 weekend including two run rule victories over No. 12 Tennessee. In total, Cody batted .500 over the weekend with one home run and six RBI. She is the first non-pitcher UCF freshman to win the award.
  • BLAIR BOMBS – First year Knight Georgia Blair has wasted no time becoming one of the key members of the UCF attack. With a home run in Sunday's 7-1 win over FIU, Blair has become the fastest Knight to ever reach six home runs in a season, needing just 15 games to do so. Blair is batting .362 on the season with six home runs, two doubles and 14 RBI.
