Wright Named Player of the Week

ORLANDO (UCFKnights.com) – After leading UCF to a pair of key victories last week, Kay Kay Wright has been named the American Athletic Conference Player of the Week.

The Orlando native played a key role in leading UCF (15-8, 7-4 The American) to a pair of victories over Houston and Cincinnati, moving the Knights into a tie for second in the league standings. She averaged 19.5 points, 5.5 rebounds, 3.5 steals and 2.0 assists. She shot a season-best 64.7 percent (11-17) from the floor at Houston on Feb. 12.

The senior guard followed that by sinking a season-best nine free throws in the win over Cincinnati on Feb. 15 and was a perfect 6-for-6 from the charity stripe in the fourth quarter. Wright also grabbed a season-best eight rebounds in the win against the Bearcats.

Wright also moved up UCF's career charts in a trio of categories last week. Her 23 points at Houston bumped her into sixth on UCF's all-time scoring list. A trio of steals against the Bearcats moved her into third on the Knights' career steals chart with 258. She also moved into fifth on the made field goals list (572) in the win over Cincinnati.

Monday's accolade marks the fourth time in her career that Wright has earned The American's Player of the Week, and it is the second time she has been tabbed this season. She collected the Co-Player of the Week honor on Dec. 23.

The Knights continue action on Wednesday, hosting, hosting South Florida in the second round of the War on I-4. The teams tip at 6 p.m. on ESPN3. Wednesday will also be Knugget Knight 2.0, with 1,000 Knugget bobbleheads being given away and a live meet and greet with Knugget.
