ORLANDO, Fla. – After splitting a pair of matches against two top 20 ranked teams, the UCF women's tennis team checks in at No. 16 in this week's release of the Oracle/ITA team rankings.
The mark is one spot down from two weeks ago when the Knights were No. 15. The Black and Gold haven't left the top 20 in quite some time. They began the season at No. 13 and have climbed as high as No. 12. UCF finished the 2019 season as the nation's No. 19 and achieved a then-program best of No. 18 early in the year.
The Knights have only played two matches since the last release of the team rankings on Jan. 29. UCF gave No. 9 FSU a run for their money but in the end fell 4-3 for their first home loss in just over two years. Two days later, the Knights rebounded with a statement win over No. 18 Texas A&M. The Black and Gold took the doubles points and four singles courts on their way to a 5-2 victory.
New team, singles and doubles rankings are set to debut next week on Feb. 18. This week's Oracle/ITA rankings mark the final time this season that teams are ranked by ballot. For the remainder of the dual match season, the team rankings will be done by a computer system and will rank the top 50 teams in college tennis.
The Knights sit at No. 15 in the USTA College Tennis Top 25. UCF was pegged at No. 14 in the first poll of the season which was released on Jan. 29. Last week saw the Black and Gold in a tie for 13th, matching their best mark in the poll in its four-year history.
