Knights Pick Up Road Win In Houston

HOUSTON (UCFKnights.com) – A strong opening quarter carried the UCF women's basketball team to a 67-49 win over Houston in the Fertitta Center on Wednesday evening.
 
UCF (14-8, 6-4 The American) shot 63.6 percent from the floor in the first quarter to jump out to a 15-8 lead over Houston (12-13, 5-6 The American). The Black and Gold scored the first nine points of the contest and never relinquished the lead in the game.
 
Leading 31-18 entering the third quarter, the Knights poured in 24 points while shooting 60 percent from the floor to build up to a 55-34 advantage. The Knights scored 21 points off 20 Houston turnovers and used 15 offensive rebounds to score 17 points.
 
The Knights finished shooting 49.1 percent from the floor, while limiting Houston to a 33.9 field goal percentage.
 
Now on a three-game win streak, UCF moved into sole possession of fifth in the league standings and are just a half game behind South Florida in fourth.
 
Kay Kay Wright led all scorers with 23 points, shooting 64.7 percent from the field. The senior guard also had four assists and four steals for the Knights.
 
Brittney Smith added 14 points, shooting 63.6 percent from the floor. Sianni Martin added 11 points off the bench and Destiny Thomas grabbed a team-high eight rebounds.
 
NEXT UP
UCF returns to Orlando for a two-game homestand. The Knights host Cincinnati at 2 p.m. on Saturday. The game will serve at the Knights' annual Play 4 Kay game on Saturday. Fans are encouraged to wear pink for breast cancer awareness.
