Grassi Mazzuchi Wins AAC Player of the Week

ORLANDO, Fla. – For the third straight week, the No. 24 UCF men's tennis team has another member honored as the American Athletic Conference Player of the Week. Juan Pablo Grassi Mazzuchi has been recognized for his solid play in singles and doubles this past weekend in the team's Power 6 win over Illinois.

Grassi Mazzuchi and Gabriel Decamps paired up in doubles and dominated their way to a 6-2 win on court two. They were the first court done, giving the Knights a solid chance at clinching the doubles point. The nation's No. 7 pair has impressed to begin the dual match season, posting a mark of 5-1. The two have an overall record of 12-4 this season and a combined record of 24-10 in their career together.

Singles play saw Grassi Mazzuchi capture the first singles point for the Knights. He was matched up with No. 78 Aleks Kovacevic who was Illinois' top singles player when the Illini came to visit last season. Grassi Mazzuchi won a decisive first set before falling in a tight second frame. He went on to win the match 6-2, 4-6, 6-3 for his third straight singles victory and second in a row over a ranked opponent.

Decamps was the two-time reigning conference player of the week for his wins at the No. 1 spot over ranked opponents. A Knight has won the honor three out of four possible weeks so far in 2020.

UCF will return to action on Feb. 29 as they host FAU at 2 p.m. at the UCF Collegiate Tennis Center at the USTA National Campus.
