Darin Green Jr. Named AAC Freshman of the Week

ORLANDO – Following a 2-0 week for the UCF men's basketball team, freshman guard Darin Green Jr. earned the Knights' first weekly conference award on Monday, hauling in American Athletic Conference Freshman of the Week honors.

Green helped led UCF (13-10, 4-7) to back-to-back league wins at ECU and against Tulsa, as the Knights moved up the conference standings this week.

Averaging 9.2 points per game on the season, Green averaged 19.5 points per game in the pair of wins. The freshman had 13 points on 3-of-5 shooting from beyond the arc in Thursday's win against the Pirates and then blew up for a career-high 26 points on 6-of-7 from long distance in the victory over the Golden Hurricane.

Green shot 75.0 percent from 3-point range, 75.0 percent from the field and 75.0 percent from the free throw line during the week. The freshman improved his 3-point percentage to 39.5 percent on the season and now ranks sixth in the league in knocking down 2.0 threes per game.

It marks the first time a UCF player has earned the first-year player weekly honor from The American since Ceasar DeJesus received the accolades three times as a freshman during the 2017-18 season.

Green and the Knights will next be in action on Thursday, hosting Wichita State. UCF and the Shockers are scheduled to tip off at 7 p.m. with coverage on ESPN2 and FM 96.9 The Game.
