Decamps Named AAC Player of the Week

ORLANDO, Fla. – After an incredible week at the top spot in singles with wins over two ranked opponents, junior Gabriel Decamps has been named the American Athletic Conference's Player of the Week.

Decamps was unstoppable during ITA Kickoff weekend in Los Angeles. On Saturday, he matched up with Gui Osorio of the 24th ranked San Diego Toreros. Decamps made quick work of the No. 30 singles player in the country, dominating his way to a 6-0, 6-0 victory.

Sunday saw the Knights square off with the No. 10 UCLA Bruins. Decamps was faced with a tough match, facing off with the No. 7 singles player in the country, Keegan Smith. It was a battle throughout but Decamps would eventually prevail by a count of 6-2, 4-6, 6-2.

Decamps went 1-1 in doubles this weekend with partner Juan Pablo Grassi Mazzuchi. Together, they make up the nation's No. 6 doubles tandem. The pair defeated UCLA's Drew Baird and Connor Rapp on court two by a score of 6-2 as the first court done in the doubles segment.

New singles and doubles rankings come out on Feb. 5. Decamps is currently the No. 22 player in the nation, but with wins over two top 30 opponents, that number has a decent chance of going up come February. Decamps' career high singles ranking is 17.
