ORLANDO, Fla. – After sweeping their lone match of the season, the UCF women's tennis team rose one spot to No. 12 in the Oracle/ITA rankings, a new program record.
The Knights dominated in the opening match of the 2020 campaign as they defeated Cornell by a count of 7-0 on Saturday afternoon. At the time, the Black and Gold were slotted at the No. 13 position, a program high at the time. This is the second consecutive poll to come out in which UCF has recorded a new best ranking.
Two of UCF's singles courts won with ease on Saturday as Evgeniya Levashova was the first Knight to claim a singles point, winning her match 6-0, 6-0 at the top singles spot. No. 54 Marie Mattel followed suit, winning on court three by the same score. No. 40 Valeriya Zeleva also won her match at the second singles spot. New singles and doubles rankings will be released on Feb. 5.
UP NEXT
The Knights will head to Ann Arbor, Mich. for ITA Kickoff Weekend. UCF will face Utah on Saturday at 2 p.m. ET before playing either No. 15 Michigan or Ole Miss on Sunday at a time to be named later.
