UCF Cheer Wins Division IA National Championship

LAKE BUENA VISTA, Fla. (UCFKnights.com) – The biggest weekend in collegiate cheerleading has come and gone once again, as the UCF cheer team claimed their first title at the UCA National Championships since 2007.

"This was such a wonderful group to coach." UCF head coach Linda Gooch said of her championship squad. "They trusted our coaches and trusted each other. To be ranked No. 1 coming out of the semifinals and then to hang on to that top spot to win it all in finals was incredible."

Orlando's Hometown Team hit a stellar performance on Saturday during semifinals, putting them in first place heading into Sunday's final round ahead of the 2019 defending National Champs, Kentucky.

In the final round on Sunday, the Black and Gold were able to maintain the momentum from the semifinal round when they hit the mat, solidifying their first-place position to take home the Division IA Cheer National Championship. With the victory, the Knights snapped the streak of four-time defending champ Kentucky, while also placing ahead of Alabama and Ohio State. View the full final results here.

The Knights also competed in the Division IA Gameday semifinals on Friday but did not advance to the final round on Friday evening.
