PALM HARBOR, Fla. (UCFKnights.com) – The American Athletic Conference Championship came to a close Tuesday afternoon after the Knights finished third for the second consecutive season.
UCF finished the day with their best round of the tournament and the second-best round of all teams with a 285(+1). The Knights finished just one stroke behind second place, SMU in a race that came down to the final hole.
The Knights finished five strokes ahead of South Florida for six more War On I-4 points. It was the first time UCF has defeated the Bulls in the tournament since the commencement of The American.
Kyler Tate paced the Knights shooting three-under in his final round as a Knight for a 68(-3) and a 209(-4) for a three-day total. Tate finished fourth overall. In his final round, Tate made the turn at one-over, but was able to convert four birdies on the back nine to finish under par.
Clement Charmasson bounced back after his first two rounds to shoot 69(-2) after he made eagle on nine with three birdies in his final round of the season. In his first conference tournament, Charmasson finished with a 228(+15).
Bobby Bai pocketed five birdies in his final round of the tournament to finish with a 72(+1) and a 213(E) in the event and finished seventh overall.
Tommy Cao and Colin Kresl each finished with a 76(+5) as Cao made eagle on 14 for the second-straight day. Cao finished the tournament with a 221(+8), while Kresl finished with a 229(+16).
With another pair of eagles on the day, the Knights converted the most eagles in the tournament with four.
