UCF Finishes Second in AAC Championship

PALM COAST, Fla. (UCFKnights.com) – The American Athletic Conference Championship concluded on Tuesday afternoon as the Knights finished in second place for the second-consecutive season. Elizabeth Moon finished second overall.

UCF shot their best round of the tournament with a 290(+2) to wrap up the event to finish with an 881(+17).

Moon was tied for second heading into the final day and went head-to-head with No. 10 Leonie Harm for the third consecutive day. The senior and freshman duo was paired together for all three rounds and were tied for first for a large portion of Tuesday’s round.

Harm slipped ahead of Moon on the sixth hole after making a birdie to go one stroke up on Moon, but the freshman birdied the next three holes to be back in contention for the individual title. Early on the back nine, Harm gained a two-stroke lead on Moon but a bogie on the 15th hole for Harm and a birdie from Moon evened the score once again.

On hole 16, Harm bounced back with a birdie and that was all she needed to stay ahead of Moon for the remaining two holes. Moon finished the day with a 69(-3) and a 54-hole total of 210(-6). Her second-place finish is her third top-five finish this season and sixth top-10 finish.

Maria Balcazar finished 12th overall after jumping 12 spots after she also shot a 69(-3) to cap off the Championship. Balcazar finished with a 221(+5).

Ana Laura Collado and Chinatsu Kobayashi both posted a 76(+4) to round out the tournament. Collado finished tied for 21st with a 224(+8), while Kobayashi recorded a 229(+13).

Alyssa Lamoureux persevered after withdrawing from the second round and shot a 77(+5) to end the tournament.

The Knights compiled 15 birdies on the final day including five from Balcazar and Moon each. Over the three days, UCF converted 31 birdies.
