ORLANDO, Fla. (UCFKnights.com) – After being a part of the best season to date, a handful of UCF men's soccer players have been named to a United Soccer Coaches All-East Region team.
Cal Jennings, Yoni Sorokin and Yanis Leerman were named to the All-East Region First Team while Yannik Oettl and Louis Perez were named to the Second Team.
The accolades continue to pile up for Jennings. On top of being named as a MAC Hermann Trophy semifinalist, a Senior CLASS Award finalist, The American Offensive Player of the Year, a CoSIDA Academic All-American and to the All-Conference first team, Jennings has earned the second All-East Region nod of his career. He turned heads in 2018 with his 20-goal campaign and continued to draw attention for his performance this season. He posted 18 goals and 40 points while collecting seven game-winning goals in 2019. The seven game winners bring his career total to 17, which is the most among active players in the NCAA. Jennings became just the fourth Knight to reach 40 career goals in a UCF uniform and will sit in fourth place all time on the career goals scored list with 46.
Sorokin joins Jennings in earning back to back All-East Region nominations after tallying five goals and 15 points this season. He was a unanimous selection to the Preseason All-Conference team and earned a unanimous nod at season's end. Sorokin was named to the All-Conference first team in each of his three seasons with UCF and earned the 2019 conference American Midfielder of the Year as well.
Leerman was named to the 2018 All-East Region Third Team and jumps to the first team in 2019. He tallied just one assist this season but was a catalyst on defense for the Black and Gold. He earned a first team All-Conference nod this season, his first time on the squad.
Oettl was a brick wall in net in 2019, making his way onto an All-East Region squad for the second straight season. He was tabbed on the first team last year and checks in on the second team after his best season yet. Oettl started all 20 games for the Knights and tallied six shutouts, doubling his career total coming into the 2019 campaign. The junior finished the year with a goals allowed average of 1.14 and recorded a 0.721 save percentage. Oettl won the conference's Goalkeeper of the Year award and has made the All-Conference team in two consecutive seasons.
Perez was named All-East Region First Team last season and sees his name on the Second Team after the 2019 campaign. He was among the nation's best in assists all year and ended the season with four goals and 11 assists. The 11 assists put him just one shy of the single season record in UCF history. He was named to the All-Conference Second Team.
