Wright Named To Ann Meyers Drysdale Watch List

USBWA Release

ORLANDO (UCFKnights.com) – Kay Kay Wright continues to collect national accolades, as she was named to her third watch list for a national award on Thursday. The U.S. Basketball Writers Association announced its 2019-20 Ann Meyers Drysdale Award Watch List, selecting Wright as one of the 35 players in contention for the National Player of the Year.

The Orlando native was previously named to the watch lists for the Women's Citizen Naismith Award and the Nancy Lieberman Award. She was also tabbed as the American Athletic Conference Co-Preseason Player of the Year and earned first team all-conference honors at The American Media Day in October.

The point guard entered her final season at UCF ranked fourth all-time in assists and sixth in steals. Just four games into her senior campaign, she joined the career top 10 in points and field goals made.

Wright moved into third on the career assist chart with 11 dimes against Delaware on Nov. 24. She is one of just three Knights that rank in the top 10 in scoring, assists and steals - joining Chariya Davis (95-99) and Aisha Patrick (08-12).

She is currently UCF's second-leading scorer at 11.4 points per game and has reached double figures in five of seven contests this season. She also leads the Knights with 3.7 assists per game.

In 33 games last season, she reached double figures 29 times, with 16 of those being 20-plus-point performances. She nearly doubled her scoring average – again – finishing with 18.0 points per game, pouring in 595 points, which ranked second on the single season chart at UCF. She also averaged 4.1 rebounds, 3.5 assists and 1.9 steals per game.

The 2019-20 Ann Meyers Drysdale Award winner will be presented at the 2020 NCAA Women's Final Four in New Orleans, along with the Tamika Catchings Award honoring the women's freshman player of the year. The winner will also be honored at the annual USBWA Awards Luncheon at the Missouri Athletic Club in St. Louis on Mon., April 13, 2020.
