Wright Named Co-Player of the Week

The American Release

ORLANDO (UCFKnights.com) – Following an outstanding week on the court, Kay Kay Wright has been named the Co-Player of the Week by the American Athletic Conference.

The senior guard put together her best week of the season to lead UCF to a 3-0 record in its return to action after a 16-day break. Wright scored 70 total points for an average of 23.3 points per game while shooting 51 percent from the field.

She shared the accolade with UConn's Olivia Nelson-Ododa.

The Orlando native led UCF to a trio of wins against teams that advanced to the postseason in 2019, including a pair of NCAA squads in Quinnipiac and Wright State. She finished just one point shy of tying her career high in the win over St. Mary's with her first 30-point game of the season. She hit a career-best 12 field goals, including a career-high four three-pointers.

Wright was UCF's leading scorer in both games of the UCF Holiday Tournament, scoring 54 points over the two games while shooting 51.4 percent from the floor. She was also a perfect 10-10 from the free throw line, including an 8-for-8 outing against Wright State.

Adding in the victory over Quinnipiac on Dec. 17, she reached double figures in all three games and was a perfect 14-14 from the charity stripe. She also averaged 3.7 assists per game and 2.7 steals per contest.

Monday's accolade marks the third time in her career that Wright has earned The American's Player of the Week.

The Knights wrap up non-conference action on Dec. 30, hosting Central Michigan at 6 p.m. in Additional Financial Arena.
