ORLANDO, Fla. (UCFKnights.com) – After scoring two goals in as many games, redshirt freshman Gianluca Arcangeli has been name the American Athletic Conference's Rookie of the Week.
Arcangeli showcased his moves this week, dodging defenders left and right as he scored his two goals.
On Friday against Memphis, Arcangeli found himself with the ball off a feed from Louis Perez just to the right of the goalkeeper. Arcangeli made one move over the ball to fake out the defender, then made a move in the other direction to create a wide-open shooting lane. The ball trickled just past the Memphis goalkeeper to give the Knights their only goal of the night. With the win, UCF clinched at least a share of the regular season conference title.
Tuesday's game saw Arcangeli fight his way through about five Cincinnati defenders as he worked to upgrade his shot. Eventually, he fired it through a crowd and buried it top shelf. Arcangeli opened up the scoring against Cincinnati in a game that eventually saw the Knights win in overtime, giving them the outright regular season conference crown.
This is the second time Arcangeli has won a conference weekly honor. He was the season's first offensive player of the week for his two goals in UCF's first two games of the season.
Cal Jennings and Yannik Oettl made the honor roll this week. Jennings netted two goals and two assists over his last three matches. Oettl earned three wins and a shutout over that time, making eight saves in the process.
