NACOGDOCHES, Texas (UCFKnights.com) – The UCF women's basketball team locked in defensively in a 63-57 win at Stephen F. Austin on Saturday afternoon.
The Knights (2-2) handed the Ladyjacks (2-1) just their fourth loss in the last four years at William R. Johnson Coliseum and the first since the 2017-18 campaign.
Trailing 13-11 at the end of the first quarter, UCF outscored Stephen F. Austin 15-7 in the second frame to take a 26-20 lead into the locker room. The Ladyjacks responded in the third quarter, holding a 44-43 edge at the end of the frame, but the Knights went to work in the fourth quarter. After six ties and five lead changes, Sianni Martin put UCF in front for good with 3:23 left to play and Georgia Gayle sealed the 63-57 win with a pair of free throws in the final second.
Masseny Kaba and Sianni Martin led the Knights with 12 points each. Kay Kay Wright added 10 points and dished out five assists. Georgia Gayle pulled down eight rebounds while Martin collected three steals.
UCF posted a total team win.
- Nine Knights saw action in the game.
- Eight Knights finished with at least two points and eight finished with at least two rebounds.
- UCF got 40 points in the paint and scored 14 fastbreak points.
Kay Kay Wright continued her climb in the UCF record book.
- Already among the top 10 in assists and steals, Wright joined two additional categories on Saturday.
- Her 10 points give her 1,155 for her career, moving her into the top 10.
- She also made four field goals in the win, giving her 455 for her career which moved her into the top 10.
Next up, UCF returns to Addition Financial Arena for a pair of contests, hosting Delaware on Nov. 24 and Stetson on Nov. 27.
