FORT MYERS, Fla. (UCFKnights.com) – The UCF women's basketball team started strong, but were unable to maintain momentum as the Knights dropped a 72-50 decision to FGCU on Wednesday evening in Alico Arena.
 
The Knights (1-2) trailed FGCU (3-0) 16-8 with 4:52 remaining in the first quarter. UCF used an 11-0 run to close out the opening frame with a 19-16 advantage. The second quarter showcased three ties and five lead changes, but a 9-0 run by the Eagles put the home team in front 40-30 at halftime.
 
The Knights put together scoring spurts in both the third and fourth quarters, but were unable to cut into the deficit over the final 20 minutes and FGCU claimed the 72-50 victory.
 
Kay Kay Wright led UCF with 17 points and three steals. Masseny Kaba added 11 points and pulled down a team-best eight rebounds. Brittney Smith and Sianni Martin each finished with nine points.
 
Next up, UCF concludes its road stretch at Stephen F. Austin on Nov. 16. The 4 p.m. ET contest will stream on ESPN+.
