Melville Earns Offensive Player of the Week Nod

ORLANDO, Fla. (UCFKnights.com) – For the second time this season, McKenna Melville was named the league's offensive Player of the Week after posting big numbers to lead the Knights' weekend attack.

The award marked Melville's second of the 2019 season after she was also named Player of the Week back in October. She has also been named to the conference honor roll five times already this year and was named Offensive Player of the Week four times last season.

Melville continued her strong sophomore campaign over the weekend with 5.43 kills and 4.00 digs per set. The Minnesota native guided UCF to a three-set victory over ECU on Friday with her seventeenth double-double match of the year, totaling 18 kills and 14 digs while hitting at a .545 mark.

On Sunday, Melville recorded 20 kills and tallied another 14 saves. In total over the weekend, Melville placed second in The American in kills (38) and kills per set (5.43) while swinging at a .352 clip. She also led all conference outside hitters with 28 digs and 4.00 digs per set in her two double-double efforts. To this point in the season, in conference action, she is hitting an efficient .306 percent, averaging 4.85 kills per set and is second on the team with 3.04 digs per set.

The Black and Gold will hit the road next weekend as they finish out the regular season with matches against Temple and UConn. The following weekend, the Knights will play in the inaugural American Athletic Conference championship tournament at The Venue in Orlando, Fla. The Knights' seeding and time of play is to be decided.
