ORLANDO, Fla. (UCFKnights.com) – The No. 6 UCF men's soccer team is set for their regular season finale as they visit the Cincinnati Bearcats on Tuesday at 7 p.m.
The Knights can clinch sole possession of the American Athletic Conference regular season title with a win or draw on Tuesday. They currently sit at 16 points with second place SMU at 13 points. It would be the first time that UCF has gone unbeaten in a conference as part of Division I.
The Black and Gold have gone unbeaten in 14 straight matches, their best mark in program history. UCF's only loss of the season came in their first match of the season to then No. 4 Wake Forest back on Aug. 30. The Knights are currently on a five-match winning streak, the second time they've put together a streak of that length this season.
THE OPPONENT
The Bearcats have struggled at times this year, bringing a record of 5-10-1 into the match. Despite just a 1-4-1 record in conference, Cincinnati still has a chance to make the conference tournament. They are 3-6-0 at home this year with wins over Albany, Purdue Fort Wayne and Cleveland State. The Bearcats put up five goals against Purdue Fort Wayne which accounts for just under 25 percent of their scoring this season.
Darryn Commissiong leads the team in points with 13, registering five goals in the process. Creggton Charlton as also netted five goals this season and is second on the team in points with 11. Three different goalies have seen time in net, but UCF will likely face Noah Lawrence in net who has a goals allowed average of 2.09 and a .656 save percentage.
Cincinnati has fallen into a bit of a slump offensively. The Bearcats have been outscored 14-2 over their matches, earning just one win over that span, a 1-0 victory over Tulsa.
BY THE NUMBERS
The Knights have never lost to the Bearcats, as they've posted a 7-0-0 record all time against Cincinnati. Every match has been close though as each contest was decided by a goal.
UCF is currently No. 11 in the country when it comes to goals scored per game with a mark of 2.27. They still lead the nation in corner kicks per game with a mark of 7.80. They are sixth in the nation in assists per game, averaging 2.40 and eight in points per game with a 6.93 clip.
