TULSA, Okla. (UCFKnights.com) – The UCF men's tennis team concluded their first day of action from the ITA All-American Championships as Juan Pablo Grassi Mazzuchi, Alan Rubio and Bogdan Pavel participated in qualifying singles action. Grassi Mazzuchi teamed up with Decamps for the doubles portion of the qualifying draw.

As the No. 17-24 seed in the qualifying draw, No. 82 Grassi Mazzuchi dominated Arkansas' Nicolas Rousset by a count of 6-2, 6-2. He advances to play Virginia's Ryan Goetz at 10 a.m. on Tuesday.

No. 84 Rubio was also a No. 17-24 seed in the qualifying draw as he was matched up against Arizona State's Andrea Bolla. The first set was tight, but Rubio was able to prevail in straight sets by a count of 6-4, 6-1. Rubio will be back in action on Tuesday at 2:30 p.m. against Troy's Pelayo Antuna.

Pavel wound up falling in his first match of the tournament in as close a match as one could play. Tennessee's Pat Harper dueled with Pavel for three tight sets and wound up edging the UCF sophomore 5-7, 6-4, 7-5. Pavel will participate in the consolation draw tomorrow.

UCF's Decamps and Grassi Mazzuchi found their stride in doubles, winning two matches on the day. The first round saw the Knight pair defeat Memphis' Matt and James Story in a tight match 6-7 (2), 7-5, 1-0 (6). In their next match, Decamps and Grassi Mazzuchi went toe to toe with the No. 4 seed of the draw, Western Michigan's Kennosuke Nouchi and Jannik Opitz. The Black and Gold tandem prevailed once again, winning by a count of 6-4, 6-3. The Knights will be back in action tomorrow at 2 p.m. as they look to advance to the main draw over Old Dominion's No. 9-16 seeded Jannik Giesse and Francois Musitelli.
