ORLANDO, Fla. (UCFKnights.com) – The UCF women's tennis team wrapped up a busy day in two locations, as day two of the Bedford Cup concluded as well as day one of the ITA All-Americans. Nandini Sharma highlighted the day with another solid victory.
BEDFORD CUP
Sharma impressed yet again at the Bedford Cup, advancing to the finals of the "A" singles draw after topping the No. 4 seed in her bracket, UNF's Ana Paula Melilo 6-2, 6-3. Sharma will square off with UNF's Lucia Montano in the final on Sunday at 10:30 a.m.
Valentina Martin's tournament came to a close as she fell in her match with UNF's Valentina Mariotto by a count of 6-2, 7-5 in the Final Four of the "B" consolation bracket.
Domenika Turkovic and Sharma dueled with Sandra Bozinovic and Maria Turrillo of FIU in a tight quarterfinal match. The Knight duo would end up getting edged by a count of 7-5 to end their tournament.
ITA ALL-AMERICANS
Marie Mattel was the only Knight in action in Tulsa, Okla. on Saturday as she was battling through prequalifiers. Her first-round matchup saw her advance on a walkover, setting up a match with the No. 11 seeded Mia Rabinowitz of Illinois. Mattel would put forth a solid performance, topping Rabinowitz 6-1, 6-4. Mattel will face the No. 13 seeded Selin Ovunc of Auburn Sunday at 9 a.m.
