UCF Set for ITA All-American Championships

ORLANDO, Fla. (UCFKnights.com) – The UCF men's tennis team is set to embark on another fall tournament at the ITA All-American Championships in Tulsa, Okla. October 5-13.

Playing in the singles portion of the tournament will be Juan Pablo Grassi Mazzuchi, Alan Rubio, Gabriel Decamps and Bogdan Pavel. No. 29 Decamps will participate in the main draw while No. 82 Grassi Mazzuchi, No. 84 Rubio and Pavel will participate in the qualifying draw in an attempt to get to the main draw.

Decamps is coming into the tournament after reaching the Elite Eight of the Oracle ITA Masters in Malibu, Calif. Decamps was able to defeat Rice's No. 26 Sarkar in the round of 16 by a score of 6-2, 6-2 to advance to the Elite Eight where he eventually fell.

The Knights have three players in the qualifying round which are Grassi Mazzuchi, Rubio and Pavel. Rubio had a successful fall season last year with his Bedford Cup win. Grassi Mazzuchi had a great run in the Southern Intercollegiates in Athens, Georgia, winning against the No.2 seed in his singles draw, No. 36 ranked Ewan Moore of Tulane by a score of 6-4, 4-6, 6-1. Pavel had a decent season in singles last spring, ending with a record of 11-11.

The only players participating in the doubles draw will be the duo of Grassi Mazzuchi and Decamps. The pair ended their 2019 dual-match season with a 12-6 overall record. They finished the season on an eight-match winning streak. The tandem will begin their run in the ITA All-American Championships in the qualifying draw.
