WINDERMERE, Fla. (UCFKnights.com) – The UCF Men's Golf team shot 844(-20) to win first place at the Tavistock Collegiate Invitational after three hard fought rounds of golf, beginning on Sunday, October 20, and concluding on Tuesday, October 22 at Isleworth Golf and Country Club in Windermere, Fla.
The Knights' 54-hole total was 14 shots lower than the next best school, LSU, who shot 858(-6) in the three rounds of play. UCF's victory came at the expense of some of the top ranked programs in the nation, including No. 4 Texas Tech, No. 7 Arizona State and No. 18 Texas just to name a few.
"I'm really happy for our team," said UCF Men's Golf Head Coach Bryce Wallor. "We have a young group and they have worked extremely hard since they have been here. I haven't seen this much work at the practice center in a couple of years. I am just really proud of the effort and it was a great outcome for these guys."
Johnny Travale led the charge for the Knights, earning the top individual spot at the tournament with a 204(-12) total, beating out 74 of some of the best collegiate golfers in the world. His 204-shot total is the fifth best 54-hole mark in program history.
"Amazing performance. Him transferring into our program was a game-changer for us," said Wallor. "He pretty much just came out and dominated the golf course for three days…He beat a lot of good players and he should be proud of himself."
Clement Charmasson was another key piece for The Black and Gold throughout the invitational, shooting 212(-4), including a round-best 66(-6) in the second round. Meanwhile, after posting two 71-shot rounds in the first two days, Tommy Cao finished the final round with a 76(+4) total, bringing him to 218(+2) overall.
Rounding things out, Juan Delgado shot 224(+8) and Jordan Sarhaddi shot 220(+4) in round the three total rounds.
