UCF Ready for ITA Regional Championship

Tournament Central

ORLANDO, Fla. (UCFKnights.com) – The UCF men's tennis team continues their fall season at the ITA Southeast Regional Championship from Oct. 24-28 in Gainesville, Fla. Seven members of the Knights will be competing in the tournament, with six of the players taking part in doubles action.

DOUBLES
Gabriel Decamps and Juan Pablo Grassi Mazzuchi look to keep their season rolling after a dominant performance at the ITA All-American Championships. They won over No. 18 Oklahoma State's Matej Vocel and Dominik Kellovsky in the semifinals of the main draw by a score of 6-3, 7-6(0). The win sent them to the finals where they fell in three sets to Columbia's No. 6 ranked tandem. The UCF duo started the tournament in the prequalifying draw and topped six ranked opponents on their way to earning runner-up status.

Bogdan Pavel will pair up with Mikhail Sokolovskiy for the tournament. The two participated in the Bedford Cup together, winning two matches.

Alan Rubio and Manoel Alencar will make up the third pair participating in the doubles draw. The two have played two matches together, both in the Bedford Cup.

SINGLES
No. 29 Decamps was the only UCF singles player to reach the main draw of the ITA All-American Championships. Decamps has found success this fall, performing well in each tournament he has participated in.

No. 82 Grassi Mazzuchi is looking forward to keeping his momentum going from last tournament where he defeated Arkansas' Nicolas Rousset by a count of 6-2, 6-2 in the main draw of the ITA All-American Championships

No. 84 Rubio enters the tournament with a record of 5-3 so far this fall. He posted a 2-1 mark during the Bedford Cup as he was seeking a repeat of last year's title.

Pavel reached the semifinals of the Bedford Cup. He topped two USF players and an FAU one as well on his way through to the Final Four.

Sokolovskiy looks to bounce back in this tournament after falling to FAU's Alvaro Horta Fernandez in a tight three-set contest where he fell 6-4, 5-7, 10-4. Sokolovskiy won a total of 30 singles matches between his fall and spring seasons in 2018-19, good enough for third on UCF's single-season wins list.

Alencar also played in the Bedford Cup. After being eliminated from the main draw after his first match, Alencar earned a win in his day two consolation match.
