ORLANDO – UCF freshman quarterback Dillon Gabriel has made an impact in his first season with the Knights, and on Wednesday he was named among the nation's elite, earning a spot on the Football Writers Association of America's (FWAA) Freshman All-American Team Midseason Watch List.
Gabriel was one of just four quarterbacks to receive the recognition this week, joining Boise State's Hank Bachmeier, Arizona State's Jayden Daniels, and North Carolina's Sam Howell.
The Mililani, Hawaii native has led the Knights to a 5-2 record in 2019, throwing for 2,000 yards and 17 touchdowns with just five interceptions as a true freshman.
Gabriel ranks 10th in the nation for passing efficiency, 12th in passing touchdowns, 12th in passing yards per game, second in passing yards per completion, 13th in points responsible for, and eighth in yards per attempt.
Among freshmen, he leads the nation in passing efficiency, passing yards per game, passing yards per completion and passing yards per attempt, and is second in both passing touchdowns and points responsible for.
Gabriel and the Knights return to action Saturday in Philadelphia. UCF takes on Temple at 7 p.m. at Lincoln Financial Field with coverage on ESPN2 and FM 96.9 The Game.
