TALLAHASSEE, Fla. (UCFKnights.com) – The UCF women's tennis team concluded day four of the ITA Southeast Regional Championship with Rebeka Stolmar and Marie Mattel earning a spot in the main doubles draw final.
Coming into the day, No. 31 Stolmar and Mattel had a combined record of 10-1 thus far in the fall and looked to add to that total and claim a spot in the doubles final. The Knight duo defeated the tournament's No. 7 seed Sasha Hill and Petra Hule of FSU yesterday in the quarterfinals to set up Saturday's clash with FSU's Nandini Das and Andrea Garcia. Stolmar and Mattel cruised past their second consecutive Seminole duo with an 8-3 victory on their way to the championship match. The Knights will face Georgia's No. 19 Vivian Wolff and Eleni Christofi in the final on Monday morning.
In singles play, Mattel was victorious in her first match of the day as she defeated FSU's No. 57 Emmanuelle Salas. Mattel was ahead 2-1 in the first set before Salas had to retire. The win advanced Mattel to the main draw semifinals where she would fall to Georgia's Lea Ma in a three-set contest 3-6, 6-3, 6-0.
No. 29 Valeriya Zeleva made it as far as the main draw quarterfinals, where she fell to Georgia's Ma as well. The battle was a tight three-set match in which Ma won 6-3, 5-7, 6-2.
No. 98 Stolmar was in action in the singles consolation bracket on Saturday. She won her quarterfinal match over Noa Cohen of Stetson by a count of 7-6(5), 6-1 to advance her to the consolation semifinals. Stolmar met Georgia's Meg Kowalski in the consolation semifinals and was edged in a tight contest 3-6, 6-2, 10-8, putting an end to Stolmar's singles run.
Nandini Sharma was also participating in singles action on Saturday in the consolation bracket. In the quarterfinals, Kowalski got the best of Sharma in straight sets by a count of 6-2, 6-1.
