WINDERMERE, Fla. (UCFKnights.com) – The UCF Men's Golf team sits in sole possession of first place at the Tavistock Collegiate Invitational following the conclusion of the second round on Monday, shooting 555(-21) to comfortably sit in first place over some of the top golf programs in the nation.
The Knights' 36-hole total is 17 strokes lower than the next best school, Texas Tech, who shot 572(-4) in the two rounds of play. At 21 strokes under par, UCF came just three strokes shy of the 36-hole record at the Tavistock Collegiate, held by Alabama, who owns the record with 24 strokes under par.
After two rounds of play, UCF is on pace to finish with one of its best 54-hole finishes in program history (the lowest 54-hole total is 818, shot at the NCAA Southeast Regional from May 14-16, 2009).
"We've played very well," said UCF Men's Golf Head Coach Bryce Wallor. "Looking at all the red numbers on the card, I think we are going to see some more of that. And again tomorrow, just go out and be conservative. Keep playing to the wide side of the hole, and we are going to see a similar wind condition and transition throughout the round again so it shouldn't surprise anybody… I am so proud of [our players]."
Clement Charmasson set the pace for The Black and Gold, shooting a round-best 66(-6) in the second round, putting him tied for second place individually in the tournament with a 138(-6) total. With the same overall score, Johnny Travale also had a nice day on the course, shooting 69(-3) in the second round, after posting the same score in round one.
Tommy Cao posted the same score he did in round one, a 71(-1) total to bring his overall total to 142(-2). Rounding things out, Juan Delgado helped the Knights cause by shooting 69(-3) and Jordan Sarhaddi shot 79(+6).
The final round of the Tavistock Collegiate Invitational will tee-off tomorrow, October 22, at 8:00 a.m., with the Knights teeing off at 9:40 a.m. You can follow along live at Golfstat.com.
