ORLANDO – Three former UCF football players were selected on the second day of the inaugural XFL Draft on Wednesday, as Matthew Wright and Terrance Plummer were picked by the Tampa Bay Vipers and Tony Guerad was drafted by the Dallas Renegades.
Wright, UCF's all-time leading scorer with 375 career points, was picked as a placekicker for the Vipers. In his career from 2015-18, Wright connected on 55 field goals, and hit on 77.5 percent of his attempts, both program records.
Plummer, the Defensive MVP of the 2014 Tostitos Fiesta Bowl, was selected as a linebacker for Tampa Bay in the open draft phase. His 334 career tackles rank eighth all-time at UCF. Plummer has spent time in the NFL, CFL and AAF since beginning his pro career in 2015.
Guerad is the only former Knight in the XFL this season playing for a team other than the Tampa Bay Vipers. Guerad was selected as a defensive tackle in the open phase for the Renegades. A member, of UCF's 2017 National Championship squad, Guerad totaled 19 tackles for loss in his final two seasons in Orlando.
Wright and Plummer join Rannell Hall and Jordan McCray in Tampa Bay. Hall and McCray were selected by the Vipers on the first day of the draft.
The inaugural XFL season begins in February with games on ABC, FOX and ESPN.
