ORLANDO, Fla. (UCFKnights.com) – After netting the golden goal in double overtime against conference foe Tulsa, Gino Vivi has been named the American Athletic Conference's Rookie of the Week.
Vivi has made an immediate impact on UCF since arriving here for his freshman season. He has started in all 11 matches and has three goals and two assists so far this season.
His golden goal in the 104th minute helped the Knights remain unbeaten over their last ten matches. He converted on a beautiful cross to seal the game. It was the third straight match that UCF had played that reached overtime.
This is the second time Vivi has earned the conference Rookie of the Week nod. His other nomination came back on Sept. 23 after scoring two goals and two assists in a single week.
"I actually hardly think of him as a freshman just because of the contribution he's made so early in his career here," said UCF head coach Scott Calabrese following Saturday's win, "He's been excellent, he learns very quickly, he's got a great mentality and he's very connected to the rest of the team."
Cal Jennings earned a spot on the honor roll for his game winning assist. He created the turnover that led to the golden goal against Tulsa and forced an error that wound up leading to the first goal of that match.
