ORLANDO, Fla. (UCFKnights.com) – McKenna Melville was named the league's offensive player of the week on Monday after leading the Knights to a weekend sweep over their competition.
The award marked Melville's first of the 2019 season after she was named to the Honor Roll four times already. She was named Offensive Player of the Week four times last season.
"With Jordan Thompson tearing up the league, it's going to be a very difficult season for anybody to get Conference Offensive Player of the Week. McKenna had a fantastic weekend and I'm glad she was recognized for how much she contributed to our success over the weekend," said UCF Volleyball Head Coach Todd Dagenais. "Her success is a byproduct of setters having great distribution on offense, and many players around McKenna taking some of the load off the outside hitters. She is getting stronger each and every week in every phase of her game. We are looking forward to her, and her teammates becoming more consistent as we try to make a big push down the stretch."
Melville continued her strong sophomore campaign over the weekend with 4.29 kills and 3.00 digs per set. The Minnesota native guided UCF to a four-set victory over USF on Friday with her twelfth double-double match of the year, totaling 18 kills and 11 digs while hitting at a .333 clip.
On Sunday, Melville recorded 12 kills while hitting .455 and also tallying 10 saves. To this point in the season, in conference action, she is hitting an efficient .349, averaging 4.68 kills per set and is second on the team with 3.21 digs per set.
Heading into the weekend, Melville ranked number two in the conference with 4.23 kills per set, trailing only Cincinnati's Jordan Thompson (6.26).
The Knights hit the road next weekend as they take on Wichita State Friday at 8:00 pm followed by Tulsa Sunday at 2:00 pm, each for the first time this season.
