ORLANDO, Fla. (UCFKnights.com) – After drawing with an undefeated SMU squad pegged at No. 4 in the nation, the UCF men's soccer team has climbed two spots to No. 9 in the United Soccer Coaches Poll.
UCF jumped over Clemson and Georgetown in the latest edition of the poll. The Knights received 459 voting points this week, their highest total of the season, topping last week's total of 413.
Last week's version of the poll had the Knights at No. 11. Since then, UCF defeated FAU by a score of 3-2 in overtime and went on the road and performed well against an SMU team that was ranked No. 4 in the country. The end result was a 3-3 draw as the Black and Gold tarnished the perfect 9-0-0 record of the Mustangs.
UCF has gone 1-1-1 against top 10 opponents this season as they've given elite programs a run for their money.
The Knights have been ranked in the United Soccer Coaches Poll for nearly a full year. UCF cracked into the top 25 on Oct. 9, 2018 at No. 19 and haven't left since. The No. 9 spot this week is closing in on the Black and Gold's highest ranking in program history of No. 7 which they achieved on Nov. 6.
TopDrawer Soccer had the Knights climbing from No. 9 to No. 3 in this week's poll. The Knights sit behind Virginia and Washington in that poll and leapfrogged SMU after the draw on Sunday.
