ORLANDO, Fla. (UCFKnights.com) – After scoring his first career goal to help seal UCF's win over Temple on Friday, freshman Jonas Schmalbach has been named the American Athletic Conference Rookie of the Week.
Schmalbach is the second consecutive conference rookie of the week for the Knights, following Gino Vivi's nomination last week. Schmalbach had two goals during UCF's preseason, but netted his first of the regular season against Temple in the second half. The goal was the extra insurance the Knights needed to seal their first conference victory of the season.
Goalkeeper Yannik Oettl made the honor roll for his shutout performance against Temple. The junior made two saves en route to his third clean sheet of the season.
