Vivi, Hernandez Win AAC Player of the Week Honors

ORLANDO, Fla. (UCFKnights.com) – After a stellar 2-0 weekend, the No. 13 UCF men's soccer team had two players receive American Athletic Conference Player of the Week honors. Gino Vivi earned The American Rookie of the Week while Andres Hernandez Betancur earned Defensive Player of the Week.

Vivi was one of three UCF freshmen to start on opening night and is one of two rookies to start in every match for the Knights. Vivi found the scoresheet multiple times this week, netting two goals and earning two assists. He scored in the fourth minute against FGCU and added the final goal in the 74th minute in UCF's 4-1 rout of the Eagles. He also assisted one of Jennings' goals in that match. On Sunday, Vivi assisted Jennings again, capping off a six-point week for the freshman.

Hernandez is the first UCF player this season to win The American Defensive Player of the Week award. He registered an assist on Louis Perez's goal against South Carolina. The assist was a shot that was stopped by the goalkeeper, but Perez cleaned up the rebound directly after. Hernandez has been a consistent two-way player for the Knights all season, and he finally got the chance to show up on the score sheet this weekend.

Both Cal Jennings and Yannik Oettl made the honor roll this week as they turned in outstanding performances. Jennings was up to his usual shenanigans as he scored three goals over UCF's two matches this week. He is up to eight goals on the season. Oettl made eight saves and allowed just one goal, good enough for a 0.50 goals allowed average.

UP NEXT
The Knights will begin conference play as the Temple Owls visit Orlando on Sept. 27 at 7 p.m. The first 100 students in attendance receive a "fast pass" to UCF's football game against UConn on Sept. 28.
