ORLANDO, Fla. (UCFKnights.com) – With two goals in UCF's first weekend of action, redshirt freshman Gianluca Arcangeli has been named the Offensive Player of the Week in the American Athletic Conference.
Arcangeli came off the bench in both matches this weekend as the Knights visited No. 4 Wake Forest and No. 6 North Carolina. UCF had gone down 2-0 late in the second half when Arcangeli found the back of the net off a feed from Jeremy Di Lallo.
With 11 minutes and a goal against No. 4 Wake Forest, Arcangeli saw his playing time triple in Sunday's match against No. 6 North Carolina. He recorded 30 minutes off the bench and scored the game tying goal in the sixty third minute. The goal occurred off a free kick where the opposing goalkeeper made the original save but couldn't collect the rebound, leaving Arcangeli to tap the ball home. UCF would go on to defeat North Carolina 2-1 for their first win of the season.
Arcangeli has made the most of his opportunity through the first two matches, firing three shot attempts, all on target, with two goals. He did not see the playing field last season but is making a strong case to see plenty of it in 2019.
