ORLANDO, Fla. (UCFKnights.com) – The UCF men's soccer team took a leap in the United Soccer Coaches Poll checking in at No. 13 this week ahead of their road match against the FGCU Eagles.
The Knights have only played one match since last week's ranking which had the Black and Gold at No. 16. UCF dominated VCU, not allowing a shot on goal in Sunday's home contest. Cal Jennings scored in the 15th minute before assisting Jeremy Di Lallo who scored his first career goal with four seconds on the clock as the Knights took the 2-0 victory for their first clean sheet of the season.
The three-spot jump elevates the Knights to their highest ranking this season. UCF opened the season as the No. 15 team in the nation and stayed there after week one despite beating then No. 6 North Carolina. The next week saw the Black and Gold dip to No. 16 before checking in at No. 13 this week.
Top Drawer Soccer had the Knights climbing in their poll as well after the 2-0 win over the Rams. UCF jumped two spots, moving from No. 19 to No. 17.
The Black and Gold draw FGCU as their next match, a team that has found some early success this season. They defeated No. 13 Michigan to open their season before tying No. 7 Michigan State. The Eagles have lost their last two matchups, which has caused some chaos with their ranking. FGCU received votes in the United Soccer Coaches Poll but sits at No. 12 in Top Drawer's poll. They sat at No. 14 in the United Soccer Coaches poll last week.
