Ft. Myers, Fla. (UCFKnights.com) – The No. 13 UCF men's soccer team is set to play their first in state foe of the season as they travel to Fort Myers to take on the FGCU Eagles.
The Knights have strung together two consecutive wins and have gone unbeaten in over their last four matches. Since dropping the opener to now No. 1 Wake Forest, the Knights have gone 3-0-1.
UCF will look to keep the momentum going against an FGCU team that started the season strong. The Eagles topped No. 13 Michigan by a score of 4-3 on the road before visiting No. 7 Michigan State. FGCU held a 1-0 lead for most of their match against the Spartans but surrendered the lead on an 89th minute penalty kick goal. The two teams would later draw, but the nation had begun to take notice of FGCU. Last week, the Eagles had climbed to No. 14 in the United Soccer Coaches Poll. However, they have dropped their last two matches by a score of 2-0, knocking them out of the top 25. Top Drawer Soccer still has FGCU at No. 12 in their poll.
The Eagles are led by Ryan Medilah in scoring, who has scored three goals and has tallied seven points this season. In net, Gustavo Vasconcelos has stopped 27 shots for the Eagles and has compiled a 1.45 GAA.
A UCF win would make it three straight victories for the Black and Gold and would extend the unbeaten streak to five matches. Cal Jennings has scored a goal in his last four matches with five total on the season. He has scored within the first fifteen minutes of the Knights' last three matches. Yoni Sorokin leads the team in assists and has gathered three of them in the last four matches.
